@Clarinetgenius12 It was NOT a concentration camp. It was a Stalag. There is a difference. In Concentration Camps, the orchestras played death marches, not specially composed chamber quartets.

@Tengent Actually only the 6th movement was composed and performed in the POW camp. The others were composed afterwords.

Correct, Messiaen stated that he has never had such of an amazing audience before. Everyone in the prison understood the significance within this quartet as if it were truly the end for them, which is mainly true for some.
